According to reports, DaimlerChrysler is planning to bring its SMART brand to the United States in 2007. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that DaimlerChrysler will soon announce the launch of the SMART ForTwo in the U.S.

DaimlerChrysler is leaning towards launching its SMART minicar in the United States, said DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche in a newspaper interview.
“At the moment, the tendency is clearly positive,” Zetsche said to Germany’s Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
Zetsche said the final decision on whether to bring the SMART brand to the United States will be made this month.

A senior Nissan executive acknowledged Monday that the recent plunge in the automaker’s Japanese sales was worse than the company had expected, and he said the company is considering adding to its lineup of minicars.
