Volkswagen is planning a rear-engined car to challenge BMW’s successful MINI, at least according to reports/speculation/wild-ass rumors by German auto magazine Autobild. While there aren’t many details of the VW’s MINI challenger, as would be expected from rumors, but it would go along with VW CEO’s Martin Winterkorn’s statement to expand into lucrative niche segments.

Earlier this month, after complaints from suicide prevention advocates, Volkswagen decided to pull its suicide-themed “Jumper” commerical. While Volkswagen hasn’t officially announced that it will unveil the Jetta Wagon at the Geneva Motor Show early next month, unofficial conversations will VW PR say that the automaker will indeed debut the Jetta Wagon.

Volkswagen, Europe’s largest automaker, has become the latest to say it is not interested in acquiring DaimlerChrysler’s Chrysler Group.

Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn, has quelled recent rumors that suggested the automaker would sell its Bugatti and Lamborghini brands. Porsche’s CEO Wendelin Wiedeking has publicly stated his opposition to VW’s exotic brands, and has threatened to pressure VW into dropping Bugatti and Lamborghini.
