Following last week’s news that the U.K.-based Project Kimber group would locate its production facility in Wales, Kimber plans to use the AC brand name for the rebadged and redesigned SMART Roadster when it is unveiled at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show.

Mercedes-Benz dealers urged DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche not to launch the SMART brand in the U.S., according to Doug Callahan, chairman of the Mercedes dealer council. Callahan said dealers are worried the SMART ForTwo city car will harm Mercedes’ luxury image.

Mitsubishi announced on Friday that it will end production of the SMART ForFour model at its plant in the Netherlands.
