Ford Motor today announced the details of its accelerated North America “Way Forward” plan. When Ford finalizes its updated restructuring plan this week, don’t expect the automaker give any of its eight brands the axe. Even ailing and slow-selling Mercury brand will survive the restructuring.

Today Ford presented former U.S. President Bill Clinton with a Mercury Mariner Hybrid “Presidential Edition,” which the automaker says is the first hybrid vehicle to be outfitted for presidential service. Ford announced on Thursday that it will recall 1.2 million trucks, sport utility vehicles and vans today amid concerns of potential engine fires caused by the cruise control switch. Last September, Ford recalled 3.8 million pickups over the same concern.
