BMW will offer an eight-speed automatic transmission on the next-generation 7-Series when it debuts in 2009 or 2010, according to industry sources. BMW’s new eight-speed automatic is being developed by ZF Friedrichshafen, who also designed the current model’s six-speed automatic.

Spy photographers have caught the coupe variant of the BMW 1-Series during testing. The 1-Series originally available as a 5-door hatchback, recently added a 3-door hatch. It isn’t likely to stop here, with the coupe rumored to be spawning a soft-top convertible next year.

BMW Group reported its January U.S. sales were down 1.8 percent from the same month in 2006.
BMW brand sales were up 2.1 percent, to 19,761 vehicles compared to the same period last year. MINI sales were off 30.4 percent in January, ahead of the launch of the MINI Cooper MkII.

As BMW continues to strip camouflage off its forthcoming BMW M3, we get more chances to see the car’s finer details, this time its the mirrors.
Spy photographers caught an M3 with camouflage pulled off the mirrors, giving us the first look at the M3’s new mirrors.

When BMW’s M5 debuted, it was only available with a seven-speed SMG gearbox, however, due to frequent complaints BMW has finally made a six-speed manual available for 2007. Despite the new manual, the complaints are likely to continue since BMW has removed the ability to completely disable the traction control.
