The U.S. receal is part of a global recall due to an defect thatcan cause sealer material to leak onto a coil wire inside the fuel pump relay. The wire can become brittle and snap, and could led to stalls or a failure to start.

Honda has received “multiple complaints,” but there have been no injuries or crashes linked to the defect.

Volkswagen announced it would recall 790,000 vehicles because of a defective brake light switch. VW said the brake light switches could malfunction if they were not installed properly, and the light could either remain on or not work at all. In some vehicles with automatic transmissions, a faulty brake light and the shift interlock could prevent the vehicle from being shifted out of park, thus immobilizing the vehicle.

The recall involves several vehicles: 1999-2006 model years of the Golf and GTI, 2001-2005 Jettas, 2001-2007 New Beetles and the 2004 R32. It expands upon last year’s recall of 362,000 Jettas and New Beetles because of the same defect.

The recall will begin in late April and VW dealers will install the newly designed brake light switch free of charge.

General Motors has recalled almost of its new 2007 Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia crossovers because of potentially faulty airbag sensors that control the front airbag deployment. The problem with the sensors is reported to be a software issue, which may prevent the front air bags from deploying in a crash.

The recall includes all of 13,032 of the SUVs built until early this month. GM spokesman Alan Adler said it doesn’t include those built after February 2.

GM will resolve the software issue by reprogramming the computer that controls the air bags. The service only take about 25 minutes. GM said most of the vehicles affected by the recall are still on dealer lots and will be fixed before they’re sold.

This is the Tundra and Sequoia’s second recall involving the front suspension in less than two years. In May 2005, Toyota recalled over 750,000 Tacomas, 4Runners, Tundras and Sequoias from the 2001-2004 model years because of similar ball joint problems.

Six injuries and 11 accidents are attributed to the issue, which lead to the recall. Toyota will notify Tundra and Sequoia owners of the recall in February. Replacement of the left and right front suspension lower ball joint will be done at no charge.

Honda Motor Co. is recalling 81,000 Accord sedans because of issues that could cause failure of an air bag-related sensor. The affected models are from 2004-2005 model years to fail. In a letter to the NHTSA, Honda said that the wiring for the seat position sensor, which detects the driver’s seating position and adjusts the air bag inflation pressure, was attached in the wrong location and is also potentially overtightened.

These issues could cause the sensor wire to break, which would cause the air bag warning light to illuminate and cause the sensor to fail. If the sensor fails, the air bag would inflate at full pressure. This could increase the risk of injury from the airbag for smaller drivers in a frontal crash.

Honda is unaware of any injuries connected to the recall. The recall is expected to begin in February.

Over the weekend General Motors issued an immediate “stop sale” communique for all Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia crossovers. GM said that more information about the order would follow.

Turns out there is a problem with the engine mounts. If water freezes on the engine mounts hinders, the frozen water hinders their ability to absorb engine vibrations. GM stressed that the problem is not a safety issue, but is one of those issues that would be a nagging issue to consumers.

The problem can be fixed at the dealership, by drilling a few drainage holes to prevent water pooling. Sales should resume in a few days.

Volkswagen has announced that it will recall over 300,000 Passat sedans and wagons because of problems with the windshield wipers, radiator and brakes. The affected Passat models are from model year 2005 to 2007.

Many of the recalled Passats have problems with the wiper motor, which can fail when exposed to moisture during heavy rain. Some diesel-powered Passats must be inspected because of a possible fuel leak. Those models equipped with a 200-hp engine may have a power brake vacuum line that can fracture at low ambient temperatures, resulting in the brake power assist becoming inoperative.

Roughly 130,000 cars are being recalled in Germany, while in the United States and Canada, some 62,000 Passats are affected.

Volkswagen has announced safety recalls to address two issues in some 2006 and 2007 model year Passat sedans, and in some 2007 model year Passat wagons. Some of the affected 2006 model year Passat vehicles have a wiper motor that may fail during heavy rain due to moisture entering the wiper motor. If this happens, it could result in reduced visibility.

The second recall affects some 2.0T 2006 and 2007 Passat sedans and some 2007 Passat wagons. The affected vehicles may have a power brake vacuum line that may fracture and become disconnected at low ambient temperatures. If this happens, the brake power assist can become inoperative, and the driver will experience increased effort to apply the brake and possible increased stopping distance.

Approximately 62,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada could be potentially affected.

Toyota Motor said that it will recall about 30,000 Scion tC coupes from the 2005 and 2006 model year due to concerns that the side air bags could deploy if the door is slammed forcefully. The automaker said the seat-mounted side airbag and side curtain airbags on certain tCs may inadvertently deploy if the door for that side of the vehicle is closed very forcefully while the tC’s ignition is in the “ON” position or within 90 seconds of turning the ignition key from the “ON” position to the “OFF” position.

The affected tC sports coupes were produced from March 2004 to early March 2006. There have been no accidents, or injuries reported related to this condition.

Scion will send recall notices to owners next month and dealers will replace the side air bag sensors at no charge.
