Spy Shots: Next-generation Mazda6
February 26, 2007 11:18PM by Michael Savio
It’s been a long time since we’ve posted spy shots of a test mule of the next-generation Mazda6, now we have the first shots of a prototype of Mazda6 cold weather testing in northern Scandinavia. The new Mazda6 will be based on the CD3-2 platform that also underpins the forthcoming Ford Mondeo.
Despite the heavy camouflage, the next-generation Mazda6 will grow in nearly every dimension. Up front, we can even see a few styling cues, including honeycomb inserts on the air intakes. From the side, the Mazda6 appears to sport a more coupe-like profile.
The 2008 Mazda6 will be powered by either an inline 4-cylinder (either 2.3L or 2.5L) or Ford’s new 3.5L engine, delivering 260+ hp. THe Mazda6 will also be availble in a hybrid model. All-wheel drive will be available on all Mazda6s, not just the performance Mazdaspeed6.
The Mazda6 will continue to be available in a sedan, hatchback and wagon. The Mazdaspeed is expected to return for the 2009 model year.
