February 26, 2007 9:52AM by Michael Savio
Spy photographers caught the first prototype Ford’s all-new lifestyle SUV inspired by the Iosis X concept during cold weather testing near the Arctic Circle. The Iosis X debuted at the last fall’s Paris Motor Show, and, at that time, Ford’s European President John Fleming announced that Ford would unveil a production version of the crossover in 18 months.
The new crossover will be based on the Euro Focus C1 platform, While heavily disguised with hard plastic camouflage, the crossover will get a sporty look and feature styling cues from Ford’s “kenetic design” language.
Ford’s new crossover is scheduled to debut at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, and will enter a growing yet crowded market, including vehicles like the BMW X3, Opel Antara, Toyota RAV4, Nissan Qashqai, and other new entries like the Audi Q5, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Mercedes GLK.
