General Motors unveiled the all-new, rear-wheel drive 2008 Pontiac G8 at the Chicago Auto Show yesterday. The 2008 G8 is a badge-engineered Holden VE Commodore SS-V, which was the first vehicle to ride on GM’s new global rear-wheel drive architecture. The new low-cost platform — compared to Cadillac’s Sigma platform — will also spawn the 2009 Camaro, Pontiac GTO, next-generation Impala, along others.

“With the balance of rear-wheel drive and the availability of V-8 power, the G8 represents another step in Pontiac’s commitment to its performance DNA,” said John Larson, Pontiac general manager.

The 2008 Pontiac G8 will be available in a base model with a 261-hp 3.6L V6 engine and a GT model featuring a 6.0L LS2 V8 with 362-hp and 391 lb-ft. of torque.
