Ford bringing Mondeo, S-Max to U.S.?

As we had previously reported, Ford was considering bringing some of its European offerings to the States as soon as this year. Now Ford CEO Alan Mulally has said that the automaker is seriously considering importing its European S-Max, Mondeo, and Transit van.
“The probability is very high” that Ford will bring some of its European products to the U.S. in the near term, said Mulally.
Mulally is a fan of the Transit commercial van. “What a neat vehicle for commerce in the United States,” Mulally said. “We need a small utility, a really high-utilization vehicle.” The Transit Connect could go on sale in the United States as soon as the second half of this year.
Another European vehicle that could find its way here is the S-Max people mover. Since Ford has abandoned the traditional minivan segment, the S-Max would offer a stylish, functional vehicle that would be an excellent option for consumers who are looking for something smaller and sportier than the production version of the Ford Fairlane concept.
As for the Mondeo, this is probably the hardest sell for Ford, as it is a direct competitor for the Fusion. Since it is a more expensive vehicle, Ford would likely market the Mondeo above the Fusion as a premium, upmarket model or slap a Mercury badge on it.
While no final decision has been made, all three vehicles are “under consideration,” Mulally said. “They just all make sense.”
