Following the unveiling of the facelifted 2008 Ford Five Hundred at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, Ford has begun pealing the wrapping off its facelifted cousin, the 2008 Mercury Montego.

The facelifted 2008 Montego features an all-new front end, which borrows design cues from Mercury’s most recent vehicles, including a new larger grille inspired by the new Mariner SUV, and Milan-inspired headlights with swept-back “eyebrows”. The bumper section beneath the grille has been recessed, but we are unsure if the recessed section will be body color or have the same “satin metal” finish as the grille, which is also seen on the Mariner. Either way, the front end — with its high-tech, high-detailed headlights and bold fascia — has way more character than the outgoing model. Out back, the license plate has been moved into a redesigned bumper and the new taillamps feature a predominantly clear style, similar to that seen on the Mountaineer and Mariner SUVs.

Expect the Montego to a feature similar interior refresh to the new Ford Five Hundred, with a redesigned instrument cluster, and additional chrome trim for a more luxurious appearance.

The 2008 Mercury Montego will be powered by Ford’s new 3.5L V6, good for 260-hp and 245 lb-ft of torque, mated to six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2008 Mercury Montego will likely debut at next month’s Chicago Auto Show.
