Subaru’s slow-selling B9 Tribeca is getting a refresh for the 2008 model year. With sales running about half of its originally projected rate, B9 Tribeca is going under the knife after only two years on the market.

The revised 2008 B9 Tribeca responds to criticisms, including the polarizing design that evoked a “50-50 reaction” among consumers, said Kunio Ishigami, CEO of Subaru of America. The revisions to the 2008 model will primarily address the controversial styling and under-powered engine, with new front and rear styling and a more powerful engine running on regular gasoline.

The new front end will be less radical than the current version, so expect Subaru to abandon the “propeller grille.” Out back, changes will improve visibility, another common complaint. With buyers looking for more power, the 2008 B9 Tribeca will get a 3.6L, six-cylinder boxer. Subaru will also improve access to the second and third row of seats.

Subaru is not expectecd to change the price of the 2008 B9 Tribeca, but it may offer more standard equipment, making the crossover a better value.

Better styling, more power, more features and the same price? If that doesn’t improve sales, then nothing will.
