While the project is not officially approved, Honda engineers continue to unofficially work on a successor to the Honda S2000. The successor to the S2000 will likely move upmarket to compete with cars like the Mercedes SLK and grow another pair of seats, according to Winding Road. The successor will be more refined, and more luxurious than the current raw and hardcore S2000 roadster. Those attributes prevented the S2000 from appealing to a broad enough audience for Honda to work on a successor.
While the car is yet to be approved, there are a few details that we could expect: rear drive, less raw and more refined, and a completely different look. The new car is almost guaranteed to go be a different name.
Even if Honda management gave the car the green light soon, the S2000’s successor is unlikely to reach dealerships before 2009. It’s also unkown if the new car would even be offered as a Honda, and may wear an Acura badge.
