Earlier today, Car and Driver broke the embargo on the Lincoln MKR Concept. Now that the embargo is broken, Edmunds Straightline is giving up all the information on Lincoln’s rear-wheel drive sports sedan. The MKR Concept, which previews the new design DNA that defines the look of a Lincoln, will be officially revealed at the Detroit Auto Show on January 7th.
According to Peter Horbury, the Lincoln MKR Concept features the seven design cues that Lincoln will use to create a family resemblance among the brand’s vehicles. They are: 1. Clean and uncluttered body surfaces; 2. a powerful, dynamic beltline; 3. a chamfered surface running parallel to the beltline; 4. a twin-port “bow-wave” front grille inspired by the 1941 Continental Cabriolet; 5. thin, horizontal headlamps; 6. a substantial C-pillar that smoothly transitions into the roof; and 7. a pronounced roofrail.
The Lincoln MKR Concept is powered by a twin-turbo version of Ford’s new 3.5L engine developing 415-hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The production version, called the TwinForce, will be seen under the hood of Lincoln’s next rear-wheel drive flagship sedan, which Lincoln says will be ready in 2008.
