Ford is considering offering the new Land Rover LR2 with V8 power, according to Edmunds Inside Line. The Land Rover LR2 is based on the same platform as the S80, and the company would likely use the Yamaha-sourced 311-hp 4.4L V8 also used in the Volvo S80.
The question now facing Ford and Land Rover is cost.
“It is a question of, if we did it, how many could we sell and could we extract the cost of the development,” said Richard Beattie, executive vice president of marketing and sales for Land Rover North America. “What could we sell it for? Fifty-thousand?”
Chief program engineer Andrew Foster acted has if he had never even thought of a V8 LR2 saying, “Hmm, that’s an interesting idea.” But exterior designer Earl Beckles said he’d like a chance to design a sportier body kit for the LR2.
