Kenneth H.M. Leet, the former Goldman Sachs mergers and acquisitions expert who was brought in by chairman Bill Ford to advise Ford Motor is departing the company and joining private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management, L.P. Leet was brought in by Bill Ford prior to Ford’s hiring of CEO Alan Mulally in September.

Leet was brought in to explore asset sales and other scenarios for Ford, including an alliance with another automaker or the automaker going private. Only its Aston Martin and Automobile Protection Corp. units have been put on sale since Leet came on board. And neither an alliance nor going private seem to be a current option for the company.

Ford is believed to be considering the sale of Jaguar and Land Rover, but has not made a final decision. Ford has also considered the sale of half of Ford Motor Credit, but has said it doesn’t plan to sell the financing arm.
