Geoff Upex, design director of Land Rover, believes “the job is done” and says he will never design another vehicle after he retires at Christmas. Upex has worked with Land Rover for 23 years, and penned the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery and new Freelander. He turned over the design responsibility to Gerry McGovern in August.

“That’s it - I feel I’ve done all I can with Land Rover, and it’s time now for someone else to take over,” Upex told Auto Express. “There is nothing else I can add to the cars. We have revitalised the range - but now it needs a fresh approach.”

McGovern, Land Rover’s head of Advanced Design, will take on overall design responsibility for the brand.
