Chrysler group is close to deciding on a partner to develop and build a new entry-level small car that would be positioned below the Dodge Caliber. CEO Tom LaSorda said today that Chinese automaker Chery is the leading candidate. He also said that the new car will be launched in western Europe, Mexico and Canada, before being launched in the U.S. market. The new car will likely be based on the Dodge Hornet concept that debuted at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show.
“We’ll have a decision by the end of the month,” said LaSorda at the Beijing auto show.
“We are down to two and Chery is the leader,” LaSorda added.
LaSorda would not name the other potential partner, but media speculation says that it is either PSA/Peugeot-Citroen or Hyundai.
