Subaru is considering an expansion of its STI model range, according to Tomohiro Ishitobi, Subaru vice president of product planning. According to AutoWeek, Subaru is considering STI versions of both its Forester and Legacy models.

“We are discussing it internally,” confirmed Ishitobi, during an interview at the SEMA show. “We feel the market is ready.”

At last week’s SEMA show, Subaru unveiled a Forester Sports 2.5 XT concept, equipped with STI parts, which could preview a production STI-spec Forester. The automaker already offers a limited-edition STI-tuned Legacy in Japan, which could easily be upgraded to full Legacy STI production.

Ishitobi said a Legacy STI is a frequently requested vehicle, and it’s on the company’s “wish list.”
