Nissan North America today announced that its October sales were up 8.1 percent from the same period last year. After lagging sales for most of the year — due to a lack of new product, Nissan’s sales look to be set to close out the year on a high note and go into 2007 strong.

While Nissan sales increased by 9.6 percent over last year, the Infiniti Division was down by 1.8 percent versus the prior year, but the new G35 sport sedan is hitting dealerships now and sales should start to climb.

Nissan is seeing increased sales of some of its older products, with the Murano (up 47.7 percent) and Armada (up 41.6 percent) have their best October ever, likely helped by lower gas prices. Nissan’s all-new Sentra is off to a good start, with sales of 1,900 units since its mid-October launch. The Versa subcompact continues to build sales with 3,056 units sold.

Looking ahead, November will be the first full month of sales of the all-new Altima, as well as the already mentioned Infiniti G35 sport sedan. Nissan said the first part of the year would be tough, but that it would turn it around in the fourth quarter. And that is exactly what appears to be happening.
