No Meta One / Magellan / Monticello crossover for Mercury

Apparently we’ve been duped. When several prototypes of a Mercury crossover based on the Freestyle have been spotted driving around Detroit over the past few weeks, we thought Mercury’s “Freestyle” was back on, in fact, we weren’t the only ones.
But that is not the case, according to sources, the Mercury Magellan / Monticello is still off and the crossovers running around Detroit are the same ones seen earlier this year — before the car was cancelled. The sources say that Ford has decided to pull out the Mercury vehicles to test the 3.5L V6 that will now be seen in the Ford Freestyle. Or it is just messing with our heads and trying to throw off the spy photogs.
Personally, we think the Meta One concept looks better than the Freestyle — even a restyled version featuring Ford’s corporate three bar grille.
