According to U.K.’s AutoExpress, Renault is finally about to take advantage of its recent success in Formula One with a Renaultsport-badged two-seater roadster in the style of the Mazda MX-5.
Renaultsport chief Alain Dassas said, “We will introduce a small sports car and use our grand prix image to sell it. F1 has a high level of safety and reliability. We want to produce a road model with the same qualities as our racing machines.”
The Renaultsport boss said that the roadster will hit the market by 2010 and said that, “It must be both accessible and affordable. We want to reinforce our F1 success with as many people as possible.”
Renault’s new roadster is expected to be more practical than the automaker’s last two-seater, the Sport Spider (shown), which had no roof and the windscreen was an optional extra.
