Lamborghini’s boss, Stephan Winkelmann, has ruled out an Espada-style 2+2 front-engined coupe in the near future, but it is considering development of a luxury 4×4. Despite rumours that Lamborghini was considering a large 2+2 GT couple to rival Ferrari’s 612 Scaglietti, but Winkelmann has said future Lamborghini sports cars needs to be both mid-engined and four-wheel drive.

The automaker is far more likely to develop a luxury 4×4 to expand the brand. ‘An SUV would fit the brand. We’ve done one in the past [the LM002], but it’s not one of our priorities,’ said Winkelmann.

But don’t expect anything soon, as Winkelmann also said that the automaker recently reconsidered its priorities with expansion into new segements was not necessarily the way forward. Lamborghini apparently has decided to expand the brand with additional derivatives of its Gallardo and Murcielago lines.
