Mazda will recall 12,000 vehicles for airbag issues

Mazda Motor today announced that it will recall over 12,000 vehicles in Japan to replace airbags. The 12,235 vehicles covered under the recall were the Premacy, Atenza and Ixion, sold under the Ford brand, that were manufactured between March 1999 and July 2002.
Mazda, which is one-third owned by Ford Motor, said the 12,235 vehicles covered were the Premacy, Atenza and Ixion, sold as a Ford, that were manufactured between March 1999 and July 2002.
A company spokeswoman said the automaker does not yet know the cost of replacing the airbags, which could abruptly unfold, or how many vehicles it will recall overseas. About 19,000 vehicles were produced during the period and exported.
Mazda announced that 11 cases and three accidents had been reported, one which caused an injury.
