The seven-week decline in gas prices at the pump may not be over yet. Average gas prices in the United States are expected to fall as low as $2.15 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. But average gas prices are not expected to fall below the $2 mark, unless crude oil prices fall below $53 a barrel.
“There is no way you get a national average under $2 without getting crude down,” said EIA analyst Michael Burdette. “We just don’t see any reason to think that is going to happen.”
The national average pump prices have fallen 66 cents over the last seven weeks from the summer highs to about $2.38 a gallon.
