Dodge Hornet will not be built on VW platform

Despite the rumors, DaimlerChrysler has decided against using a Volkswagen platform as the basis for its forthcoming B-segment vehicle. Rumors that DaimlerChrysler would use the Polo or Jetta architecture have been around since the Hornet concept debuted earlier this year.
According to an Automobilwoche article, VW’s price for its Polo was not attractive enough for DaimlerChrysler, but the automaker is still planning to name a partner for the vehicle by the end of the year. DCX is rumored to be negotiating with Chinese, Japanese and European manufacturers.
Despite this news, the relationship between VW and Dodge to produce a minivan is still strong.
