Project Kimber, the U.K. group that bought the rights to the smart roadster, is planning to build a new version with the help of famed McLaren designer, Gordon Murray. The new roadster is scheduled to start production next year, with an annual output of 8000 units, and will be distributed under the AC brand.
Murray, formerly of McLaren Cars, is known for designing McLaren racer cars as well as the F1 road car and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. He will oversee a team headed by Coventry-based Visioneering’s John Piper, formerly of Williams Grand Prix, Benetton and Reynard.
