Charting the Changes: Kia
August 23, 2006 11:18AM by Michael Savio
The folks at AutoWeek continue looking into their crystal ball and now they are looking at what is coming from Kia. Just like its Hyundai parent, Kia has had several products on hold because of the jailing of Hyundai Motor Co. Chairman Chung Mong Koo.
After consulting with inside sources, some rumor-mongering, and plain old speculation, here’s what AutoWeek expects to see coming from Kia over the next five or so years:
- Amanti - Refreshed for 2007 model year, Redesigned 2009 Amanti will share the Hyundai Azera platform
- Sport sedan - Kia will get a sportier version of Hyundai’s rear-wheel drive luxury sedan for MY 2008.
- Coupe/convertible - Kia will likely get a Hyundai Tiburon variant for MY 2009.
- Rondo - Kia’s Mazda5 competior, this mini-minivan will arrive in early 2007
- Sorento - Redesign for fall 2008, based on Hyundai’s unibody Santa Fe platform
- Pickup - Pickup about the size of a Dodge Dakota or Toyota Tacoma expected in spring 2010.
- Truck-based SUV - SUV derivative of mid-size pickup is not expected until late 2010.
