With several key executives at Chery Automotive Co. resigning, including the head of research and development, the automaker may be slower to arrive in the U.S. According to AutoWeek, the high-profile departures stemmed from conflicts with domestically educated and trained engineers. One of the departed, Xu Min, was educated in the U.S. and worked in the States for some tier-one suppliers. Engineers like Xu, brought in knowledge that is an important part of building vehicles for export, but different methodologies and training can lead to conflicts. And that is exactly what appears to have happened.

Chery originally planned to begin North American sales in 2007. While suppliers and engineers are pointing that 2009 may be more likey. The recent departures could push it back even further.
