With Hyundai’s move upmarket showing signs of success with the front-wheel drive Azera, the automaker is ready to take its next step forward with a rear-wheel drive near luxury sedan.
Captured in hot weather testing, this car is the next-generation Hyundai Equus rear-wheel drive sedan, which will be coming to the States as a 2008 model. The new Equus will ride on a 116-inch wheelbase and slot in above the Azera. The Equus will likely be powered by 270-hp 3.8L V6, with Hyundai also expected to offer an optional V8.
The Hyundai Equus will be targeted at Lexus, Infiniti, BMW and Mercedes, and will continue Hyundai’s pattern of offering a lot feature at a reasonable price. Don’t worry about the name, it is expected to be renamed for the States.
