Coventry Climax Concept: lightweight, ethanol roadster
July 22, 2006 7:12AM by Michael Savio
Three design students from Coventry University have created a design for a two-seater sports car. The designers have been working on the Concept Climax project for the last 18 months with the goal of reinventing the classic British sports car. The students wanted to create a environmentally friendly vehicle that isn’t a dull design or small city car. Their two-seater sports car can run on ethanol fuel and offers performance figures similar to a Lotus Elise.
The Concept Climax is a drivers roadster with no doors and a flip up windscreen. And is powered by a low emmision ethanol fueled flat four engine offering 270bhp at 6,500rpm as standard.
The concept is not a working prototype, but will unveil a working prototype in the summer of 2007 at a major motor show. The team of design students hopes to produce about 50 units a year at £35,000 (USD $65,000).
