With the SMART ForTwo officially coming to the U.S., the safety of the diminutive city car has been drawn into question again. It is small and looks fragile, but it is supposed to have good passenger protection because of it’s Safety Cell.

An independent team staged a simple offset collision between a ForTwo and a Mercedes S-Class to see how the SMART would hold up in a real-world crash. The ForTwo’s unibody does a good job of protecting the passenger compartment but it passengers still go for a ride.
