American Suzuki is discontinuing the slow-selling Verona sedan as it prepares to add a pickup and a hybrid to its lineup. The automaker will also bring the Swift hatchback back to the U.S. in 2010 to compete against other Japanese subcompacts like the Honda Fit and Nissan Versa, according to President Koichi Suzuki.
Suzuki also said that Nissan will provide a small pickup for the U.S. market beginning in 2008. This fall, Suzuki will add the SX4 compact crossover, and in 2010 it will offer a hybrid car.
He declined to give details of the hybrid car or the pickup but dealers believe the hybrid will be a sedan version of the Swift and that the pickup will be a version of the Nissan Frontier.
